-span. president obama yesterday spent the afternoon with new jersey governor chris christi touring the damage across the state's coast left from hurricane sandy after surveying some of the wreckage and speaking with victims of the storm. both men spoke briefly about the coordination efforts between federal and local officials. >> good afternoon, everybody. thank you-all for coming today. i want to thank the members who are here as well. i want to thank the president. we spent significant afternoon together surveying the damage up and down the new jersey coastline. we were on marine one together, to show the president that personally. we had an opportunity to discuss it at length. then going over to the shelter here, to be able to meet with folks, have them see the president and his concern. the concern all of us have for making sure that things get back to normal as quickly as possible. we have lots of challenges. our challenge now is to get back to normalcy. the things we need to do is make sure we get power restored as quickly as possible. make sure people have clean drinking water and wast

governor chris christie dismissed the idea with a large dose of disdain. >> is there any possibility that governor romney may go to new jersey to tour some of the damage with you? >> i have no idea nor am i the least bit concerned or interested. i have got a job to do here in new jersey that's much bigger than presidential politics and i could care less about any of that stuff. >> it's no wonder really. romney's answer to disaster relief being to shut down fema and place the burden of recovery on the back of the states and the private sector. something that might be a bit off-putting to governor christie on a day like today. we'll have more on the storm and the election in this hour but let's get to richard lui who is in battery park where the waters of new york harbor bashed into vulnerable flood zones. richard, 24 hours since the storm surge began there. how do thiges longs look right ? >> reporter: 24 hours ago looked a lot like this, a lot of white caps, stormy movement of the water. of course, the water at that point 24 hours ago was just starting to rise. since then in that 24
. christie, is the time for persuasion when you get down to. it is it over? >> i cooperate have said it better myself, yes. 10 days out the time for persuasion is over. we have had all of the major game-changing moments in the campaign already. we had the conventions, the debates and even the primary. now all it comes down to say for some late-breaking gaff from the candidate like richard murdoch's comments on rape this past week. it is going to be about getting out the people who you know will vote for you and may or may not get to the polls. >> you noah lot about the process here because you were involved in it. say an independent voter in ohio is contacted by telephone by the romney campaign. how does that work? >> well, what happens -- say somebody calls up and they say who are you supporting for president? they may go through a list of questions to find out if they are a committed voter or a leaned voter or undecide. if they are committed they go into the poll of get out the vote which makes sure they early vote or vote on election day. they will still try to do the persuasion i

. >> greta: of course, governor christie is grateful for any assistance from president obama to help his citizens of new jersey. that's his job. some have said, he has been effusive and gone overboard in support of president obama and he was the keynote speaker and critical of president obama on the campaign trail. any thoughts on that. >> i am from florida. we have had so many storms. i remember in a 16-month period, we had 8 named storm it's hurricanes come through our state. we have been on the other end of that. tell consume the state government, i think that's what governor christie has been focused on. i am not sure if it's a good time to do a political analysis. all i can tell you, as a floridian on the receiving end of in of these storms, our heart goes out to these folks because long after the cacameras have moved on, they are continuing to reblgd their lives. it's a long, costly, painful process that disrupts lives and some folks can never rebuild because of the storm. we wish the best for them and hopefully, you know, we doll all we can to be helpful. >> greta: how many points
